During 1980, a group of Muslims living within the Etobicoke North area used to congregate forIslamic purposes and they were forced to use their homes for these needs. They had the challenges of several issues like death & burial, weddings, the needs of new immigrants, family and youth problems as well as the need to assist the less fortunate families through a food bank.
To provide adequately for these services, they bought a unit situated at 130 Westmore Drive, Etobicoke. M9V 5E2 and registered an organization called ‘Etobicoke Muslims Community Organization’ in 1991. This was the first Muslim organization to be registered in the Etobicoke north area.

During 1994, EMCO was approved as a charitable non-profit organization and several community services were implemented, such as the Halal food bank in 1996, along with family counselling, offering burial plots, career guidance, etc.
